That's something I didn't even mention because it has been out of my mind for a long time now. I don't worry about viruses or worms anymore. You have to be very irresponsible to catch one in GNU/Linux. As long as you're careful to only install software from your distribution's repositories or other sources you consider to be trust-worthy, you should not have any problem.

And concerning how trust-worthy a distribution is:
In the free software world, also known as "open source", the so-called source code of a program is available for people to check it. That is, the instructions that make up a program are available in both the original format written in a specific programing language, that can be read by someone who knows how to program in that language, and in it's compiled format, after that same program as been translated by a so-called compiler program into a binary language the computer can read and execute.
That is, unlike in the Windows OS, that is only sold in compiled format, you can see what the computer is being ordered to do, and check if he's being told to harm, in any way, your computer or not. If you know how to program in that specific language, that is. But for the normal person, like me, that has a limited knowledge of programing and uses a widely-used distribution, I just count on the fact that, if an open source program had some kind of bad instructions, with the amount of hackers using, changing, and checking it's source code (GNU/Linux is dream playground for any hacker), someone would spot the bad instructions and warn everybody.
You can never be 100% secure in computer-related security, but you can have a pretty good amount of trust in your computer if you choose wisely what to install in it.

The movie itself is not, in my opinion, that interesting and the plot is not very clear. It's a story about the life of a German agent of the KGB. But here I was, watching this movie, when I was surprised by one most interesting line in a dialogue, said by one of the characters. The character in question is a British contact of the main German character, the former being an interesting one that repeatedly presents questions about both's role in the Cold War to the latter. And shortly before he dies in the movie, for being a rogue element that has abandoned his idealistic guide lines and began thinking for himself, here is what he says (or what I can translate from a Castilian-dubbed version I managed to get a hold of):

"Shall I tell you something? It's quite possible, right now, that you and I, could be working for another group without knowing it. Accept that. And, naturally, what follows is that the whole Cold War would be a farce and that we are all ruled by one central control, a kind of New World Order."

Knowing, among other authors' revelations and conclusions, that Antony C. Sutton's findings of how the West build up and maintained the Soviet Union, and his conclusion that the whole Cold War served a higher purpose, are now decades-old, I would say that the writer of this plot has done his homework and that this is a discreet denunciation of the NWO conspiracy.

Also, the opening monologue made by the German character is about the importance of individual freedom, and throughout the movie there are other references to this same subject. Like in a short film, supposedly Nazi propaganda, that ends up talking about total freedom of the individual. And his British contact during the movie says things like "it's important that you remember who you are, not what you are", "Really, we are all our own controllers, aren't we?", "Do you want your freedom or not?". All this apparently trying to instill some critical and independent thinking on the main character.

Knowing also that the NWO conspiracy is all about total control and the destruction of individual freedom, there might be something more here from the person who wrote the script. I don't know. I'm not much into indirect revelations, so I'll leave it to someone else more patient than I.

I don't know about that. This is one of the reasons that made me completely switch to GNU/Linux. I advise you to do the same. It's not a hard thing to do anymore and most of the distributions are free of charge. And it's not just the privacy issue. You can control your computer much more with GNU/Linux and do things Windows doesn't allow you to. How NSA access was built into Windows

Careless mistake reveals subversion of Windows by NSA.


A CARELESS mistake by Microsoft programmers has revealed that special access codes prepared by the US National Security Agency have been secretly built into Windows. The NSA access system is built into every version of the Windows operating system now in use, except early releases of Windows 95 (and its predecessors). The discovery comes close on the heels of the revelations earlier this year that another US software giant, Lotus, had built an NSA "help information" trapdoor into its Notes system, and that security functions on other software systems had been deliberately crippled.

The first discovery of the new NSA access system was made two years ago by British researcher Dr Nicko van Someren. But it was only a few weeks ago when a second researcher rediscovered the access system. With it, he found the evidence linking it to NSA.

Computer security specialists have been aware for two years that unusual features are contained inside a standard Windows software "driver" used for security and encryption functions. The driver, called ADVAPI.DLL, enables and controls a range of security functions. If you use Windows, you will find it in the C:\Windows\system directory of your computer.

ADVAPI.DLL works closely with Microsoft Internet Explorer, but will only run cryptographic functions that the US governments allows Microsoft to export. That information is bad enough news, from a European point of view. Now, it turns out that ADVAPI will run special programmes inserted and controlled by NSA. As yet, no-one knows what these programmes are, or what they do.

Dr Nicko van Someren reported at last year's Crypto 98 conference that he had disassembled the ADVADPI driver. He found it contained two different keys. One was used by Microsoft to control the cryptographic functions enabled in Windows, in compliance with US export regulations. But the reason for building in a second key, or who owned it, remained a mystery.

A second key

Two weeks ago, a US security company came up with conclusive evidence that the second key belongs to NSA. Like Dr van Someren, Andrew Fernandez, chief scientist with Cryptonym of Morrisville, North Carolina, had been probing the presence and significance of the two keys. Then he checked the latest Service Pack release for Windows NT4, Service Pack 5. He found that Microsoft's developers had failed to remove or "strip" the debugging symbols used to test this software before they released it. Inside the code were the labels for the two keys. One was called "KEY". The other was called "NSAKEY".

Fernandes reported his re-discovery of the two CAPI keys, and their secret meaning, to "Advances in Cryptology, Crypto'99" conference held in Santa Barbara. According to those present at the conference, Windows developers attending the conference did not deny that the "NSA" key was built into their software. But they refused to talk about what the key did, or why it had been put there without users' knowledge.

A third key?!

But according to two witnesses attending the conference, even Microsoft's top crypto programmers were astonished to learn that the version of ADVAPI.DLL shipping with Windows 2000 contains not two, but three keys. Brian LaMachia, head of CAPI development at Microsoft was "stunned" to learn of these discoveries, by outsiders. The latest discovery by Dr van Someren is based on advanced search methods which test and report on the "entropy" of programming code.

Within the Microsoft organisation, access to Windows source code is said to be highly compartmentalized, making it easy for modifications to be inserted without the knowledge of even the respective product managers.

Researchers are divided about whether the NSA key could be intended to let US government users of Windows run classified cryptosystems on their machines or whether it is intended to open up anyone's and everyone's Windows computer to intelligence gathering techniques deployed by NSA's burgeoning corps of "information warriors".

According to Fernandez of Cryptonym, the result of having the secret key inside your Windows operating system "is that it is tremendously easier for the NSA to load unauthorized security services on all copies of Microsoft Windows, and once these security services are loaded, they can effectively compromise your entire operating system". The NSA key is contained inside all versions of Windows from Windows 95 OSR2 onwards.

"For non-American IT managers relying on Windows NT to operate highly secure data centres, this find is worrying", he added. "The US government is currently making it as difficult as possible for "strong" crypto to be used outside of the US. That they have also installed a cryptographic back-door in the world's most abundant operating system should send a strong message to foreign IT managers".

"How is an IT manager to feel when they learn that in every copy of Windows sold, Microsoft has a 'back door' for NSA - making it orders of magnitude easier for the US government to access your computer?" he asked.

Can the loophole be turned round against the snoopers?

Dr van Someren feels that the primary purpose of the NSA key inside Windows may be for legitimate US government use. But he says that there cannot be a legitimate explanation for the third key in Windows 2000 CAPI. "It looks more fishy", he said.

Fernandez believes that NSA's built-in loophole can be turned round against the snoopers. The NSA key inside CAPI can be replaced by your own key, and used to sign cryptographic security modules from overseas or unauthorised third parties, unapproved by Microsoft or the NSA. This is exactly what the US government has been trying to prevent. A demonstration "how to do it" program that replaces the NSA key can be found on Cryptonym's website.

According to one leading US cryptographer, the IT world should be thankful that the subversion of Windows by NSA has come to light before the arrival of CPUs that handles encrypted instruction sets. These would make the type of discoveries made this month impossible. "Had the next-generation CPU's with encrypted instruction sets already been deployed, we would have never found out about NSAKEY."

I remember seeing this movie in 2003 and finding the coincidences quite disturbing. The story is about an attempt of biological attack in the United States. At some point in the movie they strangely mention Iraq and at another name Osama bin Laden as a prime suspect behind the attack. The movie ends with a frightening message saying that is not a question of if but when there is going to be a biological attack, naming some, now "axis of evil", countries as possible sources. I researched about it and found out that the movie had been shown on FOX in (the first-half, I think, of) 2001, *before* the anthrax attacks, after a strange at-the-last-minute postponement of it's first exhibition.

I remember this TV series quite well. Since I have this thing for dark-skinned women and the main actress is Jessica Alba. The action takes role in a post-apocalyptic society that has been the victim of an electro-magnetic "pulse" that destroyed the electrical and computer infrastructure, leaving the United States at a Third World society level, with parts of the city of Seattle, where it takes place, closed because no one lives there anymore. The heroin of the story is a super-human so-called "transgenic", that has a very simple job, and that is the product of the experiments of a corporation called "Manticore". In the plot, she has escaped her captive corporation's camp and since then is continuously trying to free fellow transgenic comrades, with different distinguishing characteristics, all of them tagged with a bar code tattooed behind their neck. They would always show the bar code the heroin has on her neck at the introduction of every episode, probably has a special "cool" thing she has. The characters in the series are too a great extent "braindead" and don't react to outrageous police abuse and sociopathic behavior they see around them. I suppose that's also the "cool" thing to do. One of the main characters is a guy who just anonymously denounces the evils of society from his HQ without ever making contact with the people he is trying to reach. Not a trace of any "activism" in here, apart from some direct actions, from the supposedly revolted persons.
Resuming, there are transgenic people walking around with identifying codes in their bodies they can't get rid of, a very powerful corporation seriously involved is genetic engineering, society has been depopulated and leveled to a Third World status after some sort of catastrophic event and everyone seems to have a very basic set of morals and intelligence. Now why does that remind me of something?


Also, I remember another TV series - that passed in a Bilderberg-owned TV channel here in Portugal called "SIC Radical", whose target-audience are young people and which is the most stupidifying channel available around here - called "Jeremiah" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290966/) where the main character played by a white-skinned male actor named Luke Perry tries to survive in a dog-eat-dog jungle Third World United States after "a deadly virus has wiped out most of humanity". But this one I didn't bother checking it out.

How to make your P2P programs restart if they crash or electricity fails


(Unless you have some sort of old-fashioned type of power button different than most people have nowadays, for this, you obviously need someone who can turn the computer back on, once electricity returns...)


Many of you, who have broadband connections, probably not only use P2P file sharing programs, but also leave your computer on during the night or for days during the week while you're not at home.

And if you use aMule or some other not-so-stable program, you most probably have had the experience of returning back to your computer, after hours or days, only to realize that the program you were running has crashed in the meantime, making all the electricity spent in the partially failed operation worthless.


This small tutorial is for anyone who has a limited, or even sporadic, access to his or her computer, but still wants to use the P2P file sharing networks for long periods of time and stop wasting any more electricity.

Here is what you need to do to solve the problem.


1. First of all, make sure your Internet connection restarts by itself if it fails.

- If you have a router, it should probably be already configured to do that on it's on. Make the test of unplugging and plugging back again the line and see what happens. If it doesn't reconnect, you have to configure it to do so by itself.

- If you have a simple ADSL modem that uses the "ppp" protocol, edit your "/etc/ppp/options" file and enable the "persist" option by removing the "#" symbol before it. Also, it might be a good idea to enable the "holdoff" option, the same way, in the same file, and make your modem wait a few seconds before trying to reconnect. For example: "holdoff 2".


2. Make sure your P2P programs are configured to try to reconnect if the connection fails. For example, aMule has the option "Reconnect on loss".


3. If there's someone else living in your house who can turn the computer back on after a power supply failure occurs, and if you want it to restart downloading and sharing as soon as possible, do the following. If not, jump to step 4.


3.1. If you don't have a router, make your modem connect once the computer boots.

- In other words, if you have a modem that doesn't operate independently from the computer (that doesn't have it's own source of energy) and don't have a boot script installed yet to start the connection during boot, search the Internet for how to do it for your specific modem. For example, for mine the instructions are here: http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/ubuntu/index.html.

- Or, if you can't find that information, include the command to start the modem connection in the script described in 3.3 in a second line between "#!/bin/bash" and "sleep x".



3.2. Activate the automatic or timed login option, depending on the number of people who use your computer

- Go to "System > Administration > Login Window" and do it in the "Security" window.


3.3. Create a startup script to automatically start your P2P programs once it logs in to your account.

- In a text editor, write, for example:


Or substitute "amule" and "deluge" by the programs you use, and write a different number of seconds before you want them to start.


4. If you created a startup script as described in step 3, add a so-called "daemon" to it, to make it restart a program you use that sometimes crashes. If you don't have a startup script, just create the daemon on it's own.

- For example, if you want your computer to check every minute to see if aMule is running and, if it's not running, restart it, add the following to the script, or create one file with the following text (with a "#!/bin/bash" line first) in a text editor:


And if you want it to check for more programs, just repeat the part of the code starting with "COUNT=" and ending with "fi", changing "amule" to the name of the other program(s).

For example, if I wanted my startup script to start amule and deluge two minutes after I log in and keep checking every minute if they have not crashed, I could write something like:


Adjust the sleep times to the amount you want.

- Save the file you've created with a simple name (for example: "startup"), put it in a chosen directory (for example "~/.local/bin") and make it executable by executing "$ chmod +x 'name-of-the-file'"

If you've created a startup script and not just a daemon you can execute anytime you want, go to "System > Preferences > Sessions" and add the script to the list of programs to be executed at startup.

You might want to pay attention to the time your modem or router usually takes to reconnect after a connection failure and adjust the time before executing the first program in the startup script accordingly to make sure a connection has already been established with your ISP before starting your P2P programs.


That's it. If you have any doubts, ask me. I'm not sure how clear all this is to someone who doesn't know much yet about configuring a GNU/Linux-running computer.

This is more a repost, of information previously posted by another member a year and a half ago, that I'm making, to call the attention for it.

"Anarchists in Italy have been blamed for a spate of minor bomb attacks over the last few years, with links to groups in Spain, Portugal and Greece alleged by the Italian Interior Ministry. "A device that exploded outside the Northern League's headquarters in Vigonza (Padua) on 24 August 2001 is also included in the list of anarchist terrorist attacks although investigators said in August that it was just as likely that it was planted by ordinary organised crime.

"There is an extensive history in Italy of anarchists or "left-wingers" appearing as suspects in the early stages of investigations, being arrested and later being shown to be innocent. In 2000 and 2001 two trials concerning explosions during the so-called "years of lead" originally blamed on anarchists resulted in convictions for right-wingers acting with state collusion (see Statewatch bulletin vol 10 no 2 & vol 11 no 3/4). Three members of Ordine Nuovo, a neo-fascist group with alleged links to Italian and US secret services, received life sentences on 30 June 2001 for planting a bomb in Milan's Banca dell'agricoltura in 1969, killing sixteen people. Two anarchists, Giuseppe Pinelli and Pietro Valpreda, were the original suspects. Pinelli died after falling out of a window when he was being questioned in custody, and Valpreda spent three years in prison. Gianfranco Bertoli was found guilty on 11 March 2000 for a 1973 bombing outside Milan's police station in which four people were killed - despite his claims that he was an anarchist, he was found to have been employed by the Italian secret service, SIFAR, and to have links with far-right groups, particularly Ordine Nuovo.

"Massimo Cacciari, the former centre-left mayor of Venice, has criticised attempts by centre-right politicians to assume that bombings are left-wing before investigations are carried out. Alluding to the "years of lead", he claimed that "only in Italy, we pretend that the world hasn't changed", adding that "in the seventies, there was the actual threat of a civil war, there were coups d 'etat . .. there was a risk for democracy", which is no longer the case.

"Luca Giannasi, an informer for the Italian military secret service (SISMI) received an eight-month prison sentence on 14 February 2001 for possession of explosives and was acquitted on the more serious charges of organising and carrying out two bombings in Milan. Based on a statement given to the police by Giuseppe Fregosi, an associate who was arrested for arms trafficking, Giannasi was arrested in connection with a bomb that exploded on 22 September 1998 in front of a Guardia di Finanza office and an unexploded device planted in the Bocconi University on 21 April 1999. Fregosi claimed that he provided Giannasi with explosive that the latter said would be used for making explosive devices. This evidence was not allowed in court because Fregosi refused to repeat his allegations in the trial. Giannasi allegedly told SISMI that attacks by anarchists were imminent between June and September 1998 and blamed the attack on the Guardia di Finanza office on Milan anarchists. A leaflet from a quite unknown group, the Nuclei di Guerriglia Antirazzista (Anti-Racist Guerrilla Units) was conveniently found with the device in a university classroom.

"The inclusion of "anarchist terrorism", solely on the basis of evidence from Italy, begs the question about the proven role of right-wingers who have caused explosions in Italy. In one case a known right-winger was caught red-handed when he injured himself in an attempt to bomb the Rome headquarters of communist daily newspaper II manifesto on 22 December 2000. Andrea Insabato, a right-winger with links to Forza Nuova leader Roberto Fiore, was arrested after the attack against Il manifesto and received a 12-year prison sentence in February 2001. In recent years a museum on the Resistance movement (against nazism and fascism) and a cinema where a film on nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann was being screened were also attacked with explosive devices."

I know about the unfortunate fact that Shayler, apparently, has gone crazy. It' sad that he seems to have broke down due to all the pressure he has been subjected to. I hope he gets better.

But this lecture was made before that. And, as well as in other talks by him, and as in his 7/7 documentary "Mind the Gap", he sounds completely normal.

There must be a lot of information out there on the web about these attacks, but this program not only has a good résumé made by an investigator, it also reveals in another segment, the important information about how easy it is today to manufacture biological weapons.


Here are the main points made in the lecture by investigator John Judge, presented in the December 16th 2002 edition of "Radio Internet Story Exchange" (at 19 minutes and 11 seconds into the program):

- the anthrax used was of a highly sophisticated new type that matched the goal characteristics of "next generation anthrax" the U.S. government had recently ordered to be developed
- receivers of the envelopes were the photo editor that exposed Bush's daughter, "liberals in the media" and politicians that were the main critics of the Bush Administration
- 10 days before the envelopes were sent, the FBI ordered a decades-old archive of anthrax strains kept at an American University destroyed (including the paper trail of who dealt with which strain)
- DNA analysis of the anthrax used revealed it was one of the strains kept at that same American University
- the investigation of the attacks stopped as soon as it was established that the anthrax had been weaponized at an U.S. military biological weapons lab (Fort Detrick)


The timing of the call to destroy the archive and paper trail, I guess we're supposed to consider that as just a coincidence. And the later official explanation was that the attacks were the responsibility of "one lone nut" (*one single person*).

Yeah, right...

Just an extra footnote I think I should add, the Bilderberg-Tavistock and the, already known by many, Bilderberg-CFR connections are also made in Daniel Estulin's international best-seller "Club Bilderberg", of which the book edited there in the US with the title "The True Story of the Bilderberg Group" seems to be an updated version of.
